Richmond Borough Schools Swimming Gala Finals
On Wednesday 15th March The Queen’s School swimming team competed in the Borough Gala - this was finals day. The children had already competed in the heats and qualified in many races. The Gala is split into three categories; Small Schools, Large Schools and Independent Schools and The Queen’s School was competing in the Small Schools gala.
The tension and excitement was electrifying, with The Queen’s school parents cheering the loudest, as we won more and more events. Our relay teams were amazing, with the girls’ team winning the freestyle relay and taking second in the medley relay and the boys’ team winning both the medley and the freestyle relay.
The six fastest times across all the categories were then entered into the Borough final. All the swimmers swam with great style and speed, but a special mention has to go to Yolanda who won Gold in the Year 5 freestyle and silver in the butterfly, Leah who won Gold in the backstroke and the girls’ relay teams who were second in both the medley and freestyle Yolanda, Alexa, Leah, Lily. To top the amazing results, Yolanda broke the Gala record for the girls’ year 5 freestyle, which had been in place for 25 years! We came home with three trophies and lots of medals.
Congratulations to the swimming teams:
Boys: Y6 Lucas, Asa, Cameron, Hamish, Y5 Alex, Y4 Parker, Y3 Ethan
Girls: Y6 Leah, Lilly, Y5 Yolanda, Alexa, Y4 Zoe, Y3 Ines
Overall Results Small School Finals: Boys’ Team 1st Girls’ Team 1st

We are also delighted to announce that one of our swimmers, Yolanda G is the Overall Year 4 freestyle Girls Champion for the whole of Richmond Borough Competition (there are three separate galas, Large Schools, Independent Schools & Small Schools). This is the first time that Queen’s has ever had an overall champion. Well done Yolanda!
The RISE (Richmond Inclusive Sports and Exercise) Gala also took place in February with schools from across the Borough competing in a number of events. Queen’s was represented by one of our pupils in the Freestyle and Back Stroke and we’re delighted to report that he won both of his events. Well done Sean B!
