Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

We are an inclusive school that encourages every child (regardless of their gender, ethnicity, social background, religion, sexual identity, physical ability or educational needs) to reach their full potential;  nurtured and supported in a Christian community, which lives by the values of Love, Compassion and Respect.

At King’s we welcome pupils with a variety of additional needs and have high expectations for all. Staff are trained to identify suspected additional learning needs as early as possible and are responsible, with the support of the SENDCO, to provide for the full range of needs in their class. In co-production with Parent, Pupil, Senco, the Senior Leadership Team and External Agencies teachers are empowered to deliver a full, culturally rich, curriculum that is ambitious, but also supportive, for pupils with SEN.

At King’s we build capacity to support the wide range of pupil’s needs with the whole school team working collaboratively, but with certain roles to fulfil:

At King’s we believe the success of our highly inclusive culture for pupils with special educational needs comes from:

  • An identified whole school approach to supporting SEND which is rooted in a belief in early identification and building capacity amongst the whole school team to scaffold support for pupils with SEND to independently achieve wherever possible.
  • An embedded culture of co-production and positive relationships with parents throughout the whole SEND journey, which is underpinned by excellent, SEND specific, parent-focused resources and workshops via our own King’s ‘Inclusion’ Google Classroom.
  • An outstandingly supportive SEND parent community spearheaded by our very own SEND parent representatives, Ruth Redding and Asimina Vergou, both parents of pupils with SEND, who are also a part of King’s SEND Parent Forum.
