Primary School Tournament

October saw our first Borough competition take place at The National Physical Laboratory Sports Ground in Teddington.

Thirty primary schools from across the borough fielded mixed rugby teams for a morning league followed by a Cup and Plate competition in the afternoon.  This year the rules have changed for tag rugby and the game borrows from both League and Union disciplines which leads to slightly more strategic and less high scoring matches.  It should be said that the children seem to have adapted to the rule changes much more easily that the coaches!

The Queen’s School squad played very well in the morning league which saw them progress into the top half the competition for the afternoon.  Unfortunately, their first match was against a very strong and disciplined team from Stanley Primary School and the game was lost by a try in the final thirty seconds.

The Queen’s School squad all played very well and demonstrated great team spirt and sportsmanship.  This tournament is always very early in the sports calendar and on the strength of their play, the team should progress well in their league matches this season.  Well done Queen’s!
